Code REDD Empowering People, Preserving Forests, and Protecting Wildlife

Code REDD supports the inclusion of REDD+ in California’s Climate Policy

International forests are a critical component
of California’s climate change policy

Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) is vital for climate leadership & forest conservation.

California has demonstrated exemplary leadership with its Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32), and has the opportunity to broaden this leadership by adopting regulations to include REDD+. This opportunity has already catalyzed a wave of innovation and growth here in California – and, if approved, will foster sustainable development both domestically and in developing countries where it is needed most.

REDD+ is a proven, cost-effective tool in reducing the 15% of annual greenhouse gas emissions caused by deforestation. We continue to lose an area of tropical forest three times the size of San Francisco every day. The California Air Resources Board’s approval of REDD+ would slow this loss while helping the state meet its climate change goals.

The world simply cannot afford to wait.
