Mission:

Code REDD’s mission is to scale and support the REDD+ mechanism as envisioned by the United Nations and the REDD+ community because we believe it offers the most holistic and sustainable way to preserve forests, empower marginalized communities, protect endangered wildlife, and reduce global greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

Goals:

Our goals are to build long-term, sustainable demand for REDD+ verified emission reductions (VERs), advance stringent performance standards and best practices for the REDD+ industry, and advocate for the inclusion of high-quality REDD+ projects into compliance markets.

Actions:

We meet the above goals by engaging and educating the private sector to build the tangible business case for inclusion of REDD+ into their sustainability strategies, developing and nurturing one of the first REDD+ industry association advancing industry best practice standards, and by supporting a pathway to compliance markets within climate policies and development priorities for high-quality, jurisdictional REDD+projects.

Code REDD developers have all committed to an industry leading set of best practices designed to maximize impact and minimize risk (VCS, CCB, FPIC, Code of Conduct). Code REDD connects these developers with socially responsible companies, and works with them to leverage the achievement of their CSR, Sustainability, and GHG reductions goals. Code REDD projects may also provide a low-cost, high-volume supply of REDD emissions reductions as a hedge against future compliance obligations.

The Code REDD platform of REDD+ projects can be highly leveraged for maximum impact – both as a mechanism to bring additional financial support to high-impact forest conservation programs as well as an opportunity to connect millions at the bottom of the pyramid to new technologies and advancements – leading to a better, more equitable, and more sustainable world. As we grow, our platform will continue to expand, catalyzing long-term sustainable investment in forest conservation designed under REDD+ all over the world.
 
Code REDD supported projects are already in a dozen countries – benefitting over a million rural impoverished community members, creating over 1,000 sustainable jobs, preserving over 19.2 million acres of forest, protecting over 90 endangered/threatened species, and reducing 17.3 million metric tonnes of annual CO2e emissions. And these numbers are growing every day.
